Backing up using pmpMyAdmin?

OK, I'm in MyAdmin. I got my forum database. I see the "View Dump of Database" which I gather is the way to backup the database. I select all the tables but there are a bunch of options I don't understand.

[ ] Add Drop Table
[ ] Complete inserts
[ ] Extended inserts
[ ] Use back quotes with tables and field names

Qusetion 2 How does one restore this backup if necessary?

Thanks

I normally use "Add Drop Table" and "Complete Inserts"

There really is no need for either of those but I like them.  The first one makes it so if the table exists it deletes it, meaning I am sure I get a clean start.  The second I am not quite sure what it does, well I am but can't put it in words but I like it.  then if you need to restore, you have your sql file and you just runb it as a query on your database.

That is simple if one has a clue about this PHP, SQL stuff. How does one "run a query" If there is an online manual of FAQ for this, please, where is it.

Check me if my assumption is correct...

In MyAdmin, I click my database. I see a query window. I paste the contents of the sql file in there and hit go. Or I can browse for the file on my system, and hit go. This will rebuild my database if I blow it up, right?

Either of those will work depending on your version of phpMyAdmin.  The newest allows you to browse for the file while older ones you must paste the contents of it into the box.

Knowing how to backup and restore makes me more comfortable tinkering with the board. Thanks!

try phpmybackup - http://www.phpmybackup.com - it saves the backup to the server and then you can download it with FTP which makes things much easier...
