Again, we have one but didn't put it in because it didn't work for safe mode people and we all see the crap going on with safe mode.  Also, I requested the code for it from Ted but haven't seen him online in days.

Then how about a backup system that does not attempt to write to the backup to the server disk, but constructs a backup file which is offered to the user using http?
It could also be uploaded to a script that way....then the user can store it on his workstation.

Also, a quick backup system could be made, which copies the tables and content inside mysql, just so you can resort to a former state of your board if the data gets corrupted or something.

Both systems I've built before for other projects (although in asp), but I could adapt them to work with SE ?

I think it would be better to have it presented as a text file, with the proper delimiters.  Yes, it would be an excellent idea to write a script that would use this textfile as a way of re-inserting your MySQL data into your MySQL datafile in case of corruption.

This could be a very good thing to have, especially for people that are running on safe-hosts.

cheers.........

Yep....that's what I meant, a text file to send over http....but if you send it as a text file, it will be displayed instead of offered to save. With large boards that could result in huge render times in the browser.

Well, I'll look into it, as such a system will aslo be valuable to move your boards from one server to another easily.

Maybe I'll build the quick-backup also....since nothing will beat that when it comes to speed. It'll not protect you against a complete database wipe-out though, and will not enable you to move your board from one place to another.
