I did a search for sub forums but only found one thread.
Has this idea been thrashed out yet?

I've been trying to figure out a way how I can combine 3 or 4 forums with little fuss. So I figured sub forums was a good idea to do the job.

I guess yabb SE is already looking at doing this?

well I don't think I have seen it in action. a friend of mine suggested it. I guess it would be like collapsable catergories?

Yeah, but i can't see the utility of this. Collapsable categories is interesting, but not subforums :)

P.S. all this in my opinion, others may want this mod.

ah ok.
I thought sub forums and collapsable catergories might be the same thing. but obviously not.

the reason is if I have 3 or 4 forums totaling 40 or 50 catergories all together, then a forum that combined them all but had collapsable catergories would probably work then. and only need to use one data base etc...

and if the default catergories to be left uncollapsed can be controlled from the admin panel then it would be a perfect solution. I guess then the users could udjust from their profile which catergories "they" like to have open when they log in too.

What I would like to see is an option where you can have in the address of the main board like a special option to show only one category without the others being displayed or even collapsed.

Eg of Address. http://www.yabb.info/community/index.php?cat=1

As soon as the MR is released, I will do this one infact, and maybe also collapsable ones too, all under the one YaBBon.

This would be very, very handy, especially the user defined open categories, and being able to show only a single category.

I've been looking at ways to have several forums with common user files (as i used to do with yabb 1 gold) in order to 'split' yabb powered bits around the website
(general discussion, jokes, game-related stuff etc) rather than one jumbo forum with non-related stuff jimmied together.

GEEZ, And all this time I thought I was the only one!!!!

Its about TIME you folks poked your heads up and said something.

Let me see if I can put it gracefully:

  "I
NEED
THIS
MOD
!!!!!!"

This is the very bane of my existence right now! I have been whining and moaning and begging and pleading on multiple boards on this forum for SOMEONE to PLEASE Help me figure this out! I am learning PHP but the whole task, frankly, is quite daunting. From what I can see, code in all 21 source files needs to be changed.

IF someone can do this for me, and SOON (like within no more than a week following the Maintenance Release) then I will be so very grateful that I.. I.. I don't know what I'll do. Probably nothing, really, but MAN will I be HAPPY, and relieved as well!!

Thank you so much for mentioning this guys, I'm SO glad I'm not the only one with this problem.

PS -- Can we please just call them "Mods" -- not Yabbons or whatever?  ::)

BTW, can I get some indication as to whether anyone is working on collapsable categories or if it will be in the next official release?  So I know whether or not I should make it for myself on my own?

I am already starting work on this.  I will include it as a Mod, and if Jeff lets me and if it proves popular, it may possiblely be in the next release (if completed by then) or the one after that, but it will definately be a mod.

BTW I have finally gotten all the YaBBon crap out of my system, and they are just plain and simple mods to me now.

Similar to what I have so far, but what is planned is to also hide the other boards totally, and to allow more than one open at a time, with options in the "installed Mods" section.

I am however interested in your changes.  What did you change exactly?
