Experience Bars

Was kicking around and saw these funky HP, MP, and Exp bars on a Burning Board. After reading the explanation:

The following is how HP, MP and EXP work.
HP: This rises and falls according to how active you are.
MP: Shows how long a user has been with the forums and their level of activity.
EXP: Shows how close you are to reaching the next level.

Every time your experience reaches 100% you get a level up.

... I thought it seemed pretty neat. I don't think there was any mod for something like this out for Y1G, was there? It would be a cool thing to do, though I myself don't have the foggiest idea where to start.

The experience bar would be easy enough, just base it on the number of posts the user has and how many until the next level (it's given as a percentage, i.e. Exp: 97%). With the other bars, however, I'm not sure how they work. MP is given as something like "MP: 5/5" and HP is shown similarly, like "HP: 13/49". Unless this can all be explained more easily I don't think it should be added to the boards. (Only HP and EXP seem to make sense)

I suppose EXP can shown as %age of posts made to reach next level.

I think if someone understands it and wants to do it, they should feel free to make a mod for it.

MP (Magic Powers ) is based upon the number of threads posted by the user and the number of views they have received, hence a popularity rating. It's interesting, but we have Karma already. On the other hand, this might work better than Karma, or make a nice addition to it.

Actually, yeah, that's pretty close to what I had in mind. I hadn't read through that thread before, thought it to be something different than it turned out to be. I'd rather keep things a little more separated, however, not making such a complicated intertwining of rank, experience points, and Karma. But maybe they could make "simple mode" experience bars, just to show how close users are in terms of posts to the next level.
