I chmodded the complete cgi-bin/yabb dir and all files to 777... but still I dont seem to get permissions..

Any suggestions?

(now I am gonna try to upload the cgi-bin part to the html part of the server and see if I can access it from there.. but this is not the nice way.. )

thanks

If your host has basedir restrictions set, you can't open files that are outside the base dir...i.e.

say you have the converter.php in this dir
/home/user/html/a/b/converter.php

but your files in

/home/user/html/c/d/

then you won't be allowed to accesss them.  TO be allowed access, the converter.php would have to be in a basedir <= the base dir of the files

i.e. if your files are in
/home/user/html/c/d/

then converter.php would have to be in
/home/user/html/c/d/  or
/home/user/html/c/ or
/home/user/html/  etc..

I tried that but it didn't work, anything else?

BTW here's what I did:

/home/public_html/cgi-bin/boards/Variables <-- location of the files I'm trying to access

/home/public_html <-- location of converter.php

I've also tried:
/home/public_html/cgi-bin/boards/ <-- location of converter.php
/home/public_html/cgi-bin/ <-- location of converter.php

I had this same thing happen. Fixed it by FTPing in and CHMODing cgi-bin/YaBB/boards,member,variable,whicheverelsewasinthere to 0777.
You just need to redo your permissions is all.
