Problems with using SSI.php in new config

YaBB SE Version: 1.5.4
PHP Version: 4.3.2
MySQL Version: 3.23.x
Server Platform: Unix, Linux, or BSD
Link to Forum: http://www.groovenet.org

Problem Description:
I've just  had to upgrade to Apache2 and with it i Installed PHP 4.3.4. Everything with the board works great, at least as far as I can tell.. no errors within YabbSE, the forums, the admin section, anything..

the problem is on my homepage for the forums I use the SSI.php include script to create a portal page. with this new configuration the only way to get the page to render correctly (regardless of browser) is to put one of the functions from SSI.php at the very top under the include line for SSI.php. If I don't include it, nothing above the first line that has a function from SSI.php will be rendered. currently you can see that I have the lastest member showing at the very top of the page.

here's the page with that line removed.. http://groovenet.merseine.nu/bad_index.php
it doesn't render anything until the latest member line comes in which is about 50 lines in (including CSS)..

maybe this is a problem with PHP, considering I have a version thats one higher than I can even select from the form for this page :P

any thoughts or insight would be appreciated.

This is due to gzipping... I recommend removing the gzipping stuff from SSI.php.
