YaBB SE Version: 1.5.4
PHP Version:
MySQL Version:
Server Platform: Windows
Link to Forum: www.qrcmodels.co.uk/yabbse/index.php

Problem Description:
How can I stop the automatic instant message alerts to members, but allow them to receive alerts that someone has replied to their post?

As the webmaster, a lot of users don't realise that the automated message has come from the webmaster and we get it then have to forward it on! Can a mod be done to get the original pm authors email address used as a reply instead of the webmaster?

I have discussed this in the 'other help' section and it was suggested that I post it here for a mod. The pther message thread is http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?thread=26237

Well, you can turn it off for everyone with: (in phpMyAdmin)

UPDATE yabbse_members
SET im_email_notify = 0;

For a temporary solution....

I suggested that to him earlier [Unknown] he missworded what he is wanting.

Read the second post by him here:
http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?thread=26237

He doesn't want to turn the pm notify feature off, he just doesn't want it to use the webmaster e-mail address because people respond to the e-mail and it sends it to the webmaster instead of the user who sent the pm.

Well, isn't there a $txt string he can change that will just not send the message and instead ask them to check "$scripturl?action=im"?

Maybe I'll put together something to do this later on, if I get time.

That would be a perfect solution that would be exactly what I am looking for ;D I agree with the dangerous ground comment in a different thread, it would be much better to receive notification and not be able to reply to the notification email.

well... in the forum prefs, I changed the email address to a fake one because I was tired of getting replies to the notifications... that did the trick for me

we still get notified, but if someone replies, it doesn't get anywhere ;)
