Call to undefined function: mysql_get_server_info

YaBB SE Version: 1.5.4
PHP Version: <= 4.1.0
MySQL Version:
Server Platform: Unix, Linux, or BSD
Link to Forum:

Problem Description:
I've just paid extra to have mySQL installed by my site host and I'm having big trouble installing the forum :(

My std Yabb forum is a heavy load (6000 + users) and I was hoping yabbse would be better but I'm getting the following message in step 3:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_get_server_info() in /home/sites/site4/web/yabbse/install.php on line 749

Everything is chmodded 777 just in case but no go.  I ran phpinfo and my server is running PHP Version 4.0.3pl1 so could this be the problem? My host has told me they won't upgrade the php version so if that is it I'm stuffed  :-[ I've never touched SQL before so I don't have a clue if its just some stupid config error?

Any ideas?

If not is there a php/mySQL forum that might run on this version of PHP as the hosting stands me at too much to walk away? Also how am I to keep my members if I have to walk away from yaBB  :'(

BP

Your host needs to rebuild PHP to handle MySQL support, currently it doesn't.

Hi,

I've just installed phpMyAdmin and apparently SQL version is "MySQL 3.23.47"

Does this mean that php can handle SQL?

Sorry for the newbie questions but I'm learning fast   ::)

You have just barely the needed versions to run YaBB SE, so you're ok there. What he's saying is the host needs to rebuild php for you, so that it contains MySQL support. They need to work together, and they aren't right now because PHP wasn't properly configured. Drop them an email about it. Though, in my opinion, if you paid extra for the MySQL and you got 3.23 you're kinda getting taken. Most hosts offer MySQL databases with their packages and they have the current SQL releases. Much nicer.

Hi,

Thanks for your help. I tried phpBB just to test the SQL as my host isn't open for another 8 hours and it installed fine (5 minutes) and you can post/preview etc. I then had a mosey around the phpBB database with phpmyadmin and the SQL database is there. Unfortunately I can't convert my yaBB board to phpBB without going through yabbSE conversion first, which is just typical as I actually want yabbSE anyway :P

So I know what to ask my host, can php really need reconfiguring if phpBB runs fine as far as I've tested? As I say I have too much left to run on this host to move right now, but you're right they are the pits  :-\

QuoteI ran phpinfo and my server is running PHP Version 4.0.3pl1

That is a horrendously old version of php (coming upto 3 years old infact), lots and lots has been changed, fixed, added and patched. YSE will not run with php below 4.1x and ideally needs at least 4.2x. Bug your host to update, if they wont then I would seriously consider moving to a different host as really theres no reason to run such an old version, in fact theres plenty of good reasons not to.

Thanks for that, I reckoned as much. My host won't budge on the issue (I tried today) so I'm stuck with them as I'm paid up until next year (big bucks for big bandwidth) so I have to make do and as phpBB seems to work thats where I'm off to - I've even found a working(ish) convertor! Its a shame as I say cos I've built up 6500+ members over the previous year but std yabb just isn't able to cope with the traffic and yabbSE won't play on my site  :'(

I might try simple machines (?) when its out but I doubt I can convert back again form phpBB and anyway my host is the pits. Now I know what it must feel like to run a Mac and be stuck with limited software choice  ;D

Can almost gaurentee that SMF wont work either. Frankly its got to be an awfull host that insists on running a 3 year old version of php that has numerous security holes, especially when you consider that it's a 10 min job to download and compile it. Just hope the rest of their server isnt 3 years behind the times.

You could always ask them for your money back, after all their server is barely fit for serving.

Don't know how much money you're talking about, but sometimes it's best just to cut your losses...

I've left two hosts with substantial time still to run, but now I pay monthly! :-X

Also, if you check SMF frequently, there will be an endorsed host list, as these people have proven that their systems can handle YSE (and SMF) without problems, and yes, I am on that list.  Part of the requirements is that the host keep the software current.  I'm not TOO far behind (PHP 4.3.2/MySQL 4.0.12), though when I switch servers shortly, I'll be on the latest stable releases of everything.
