I think such forum as yours must be Search Engines Optimized. First step to this may be using <noindex></noindex> for everything but messages. Thank you and good luck. Excuse my English.

SEO for the devs doesn't really go past making sure that everything is presented with proper XHTML and making sure that everything can be read/seen for the visually impaired.

There's no point optimising what is not spiderable anyway. :(

I also am under the understanding that spiders don't care as much about meta tags and things that were originall developed for them.  Rather they just take some of everything.

Dan said he was working on a mod which should create static .html pages from the forum, which should *easily* be spiderable. He stated that it should be released here very very soon. I await with great anticipation. :)

I've modified YaBBSE URL's generator to generate static html pages!!! So Google index it!!!

I've used .htaccess Rewriterule command, from mod_rewrite Apache module.

I saw this type of conversion made automatically in other scripts like Gallery, so I decided to do it in YaBB Gold, and now in YaBBSE, and results are incredible!!!

You can see examples:
This url:
http://www.marianistas.org/comunidad/index.php?board=47
now is:
http://www.marianistas.org/comunidad_47.htm

This URL:
http://www.marianistas.org/comunidad/index.php?board=47;action=display;threadid=1241;start=0
Now is:
http://www.marianistas.org/comunidad_47_1241_0.htm

Problems?
what kind of problems?
Since I applied this conversion to YaBB Gold URL's Google indexed ALL PAGES with a very high rank, cause it is under the first '/' of the domain.
Now I've just converted URL's, and in 40/60 days I hope to see all my URL's dancing in GOOGLE searchs

;-)

This is the secret:
Open .htacces at your web site root directory, and add this lines:

RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^(.*)community_(.*).htm $1community/index.php?board=$2

Now you can type this URL:
http://www.yabbse.org/community_141.htm
And you will be sent to:
http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?board=141

The same for thread links.

GREAT, is'nt it?
Now you must modify BoardIndex.php in order to create this kind of URL's, not the the other one.

;-)

I sure you that your forum will reach a very high Google rank, and a lot of new visits soon.

It would be great to build a mod that makes this changes automatically, or include it in next versions.
Sorry, I'm not a mod creator skilled, only know how to install it. Does anyone want to do it?

¡¡¡¡LET's FLOOD GOOGLE WITH YABBSE!!!!

YEAH!!!
There's no other FORUM SCRIPT that implements URL mod_rewrite conversion.

YaBBSE can be the first doing it!!!  ;D

When I do that
QuoteRewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymlinks
RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^(.*)community_(.*).htm $1community/index.php?board=$2
I get this error message.

Probably your server doesnt support mod_rewrite module for Apache.
Sometimes it is disabled for security and best performance.
Sometimes RewriteEngine On is forbbiden.

Ask your hosting provider.

I posted something in this board telling exactly how to make it use slashes. (I don't take credit, someone posted something and I made it work with YaBB SE.)

So, it'd be like:
http://www.yabbse.org/community/index/board/141/action/display/threadid/23503

But, I like this a bit more, it would however take something like this...

function ob_url_rewrite($buffer)
{
  return preg_replace(
     array('~"' . preg_quote($scripturl, '~') . '\?board=(\d+)"~', '~"' . preg_quote($scripturl, '~') . '\?board=(\d+);action=display;threadid=(\d+)"~', '~"' . preg_quote($scripturl, '~') . '\?board=(\d+);action=display;threadid=(\d+);start=(\d+)"~'),
     array('"' . $boardurl . '_\\1.html"', '"' . $boardurl . '_\\1_\\2.html"', '"' . $boardurl . '_\\1_\\2_\\3.html"'),
     $buffer);
}

And then just add that with ob_start('ob_url_rewrite');.

Then use the rewrite stuff...

RewriteRule ^(.*)community_(\d+).html $1community/index.php?board=$2
RewriteRule ^(.*)community_(\d+)_(\d+).html $1community/index.php?board=$2;action=display;threadid=$3
RewriteRule ^(.*)community_(\d+)_(\d+)_(\d+).html $1community/index.php?board=$2;action=display;threadid=$3;start=$4
