It means you have the wrong MySQL host name in there.  You should be fine in leaving it as localhost, as most web host providers have MySQL running on the same server as your website.

Download Settings.php (in ASCII format) and change the server to localhost (or 127.0.0.1).  Re-Upload Settings.php, and you should be set.  If that doesn't work, ask your web host provider for the correct server name for the MySQL server.

Tried that. Still didnt work. Could it be the SQL is not installed correctly on the server?

Do you know your actual server's name?  You really need to get the name from your host provider.  Check your emails from your host to locate it in there, or provide a phpinfo.php and we'll try to work from that.  It's evidently there, just have to find it.  ::chuckles::

I have been trying to get that from the website here http://www.yabbse.org/manual/phpinfo.zip But can not get it. Is there another place on your site I can get it from?

open notepad

type the following

<?php
phpinfo()
?>

goto file >save as and in the file type bit select all files and enter the file name as phpinfo.php

Your MySQL server is installed on your server.  Use localhost as I've previously indicated.  If you still have connection problems, then there's something wrong with the username/password.  MySQL is physically present on your server, though.

that error message is telling you that mysql is working fine but your username and/or password are wrong
