[solved] Restoring a back-up Sql in phpmyadmin?

Hi all -

Basically, the server my site was hosted on was badly hacked at the end of last month.

CPanel would only spit out blank .zip files, so I had to learn to use phpmyadmin to restore a backup of the forum.

Then the site went down for 9 days.

I'm now trying to re-cerate the forum on a new domain.

Here's the issue:

I ran an install of 1.5.2, but changed the folder to /forum/ instead of /yabbse/.

I've run a "replace" command through the settings.php and settings.bak files to correct the new relative folder path, and the new domain name.

Then I realised I need to check the SQL file, and have now done a search/replace through there correcting the file paths and domain name change.

NOW...

How do I actually upload the modified MySQL file into my new domain? I figure I need to use phpmyadmin, but I've looked around and just can't see any command that seems relevant. I have very little experience with online dbs.

Could anyone please help advise me of the matter?

find your db in phpmyadmin, click sql and there will be a browse button, hit browse and find the sql file and hit go.

phpmyadmin is throwing up 404s now, though, so I've contacted my host support.

If that's at the host we both use, it's been happening to me too! I've been intending to raise it, but have noted that every action has still worked despite leading to a 404!

If it is that host, did you raise it through a support ticket or the forums (interested because I'll still have to contact them too)?

if your hosts phpmyadmin is broke, you could always download it from http://www.phpmyadmin.net/

Its relatively simple to set up

True, but I've never noticed any hosts control panel thats upto date with the latest release of phpmyadmin.

Glad I don't use a control panel, although I do check for phpMyAdmin updates monthly and update ALL my clients (not just my server, but other servers that belong to my clients) with the latest, after it's been stable.

This was a problem at VenturesOnline - but it had also occured at akashik.net. Fixed at both places. I'll post the tech report from VO in case it's of any help:

Hi,
It turns out the problem wasn't just restricted to MyAdmin, it also affected the command
line tool. What was happening was that one of the insert requests in the SQL
file was larger than the MySQL input buffer, and was causing the server to close the
connection. Making the buffer larger solved the problem, and your data has been
reloaded. Chances are MyAdmin will work correctly now as well.

No, it's neither of those, but thanks anyway! So I knew you were with more than one host, but clearly overestimated the impact of the 'if' in my own questions...

I couldn't use an account with unitedhosting - my ISP is blocking secure ports over 1080, so I couldn't access the Ensim control panel. Signed-up and then refunded this week.

I'm sure Matt will get it sorted.
