password changing on logout

i've searched a few times for a solution, but couldn't find one.

one of the people using a board i just set up is having a problem: everytime he logs out, he can't log back in because it gives him an invalid password error. he has to click the "forgot your password?" link and get a random one e-mailed to him everytime he wants to login.

he's the only person this is happening to, so i'm just curious as to how to fix it. i know there's probably some easy way that i'm just not seeing, but yeah. any help would be appreciated.

Try to set his password manually. (by editing his profile.) It might work then.

i tried
he logged out, then back in
got password invalid
clicked the "forgot" link
got a new random one mailed

:/
