How to search wildcards

Hi! I was wondering if it was possible to search using wildcards. For example, I could type "*" in the search field that that would return all posts in the forum. Similarly, if say I were to enter "*" in the search field and enter "test" as username in posts by user in the advance search form, it would return all posts by the user called "test.

I tried searching around the forum but culd seem to find what I was looking for.

Thank you.

You might want to post in the mod ideas board here, because this isn't a current built in feature.

Thanks. I was actually thinking of doing this myself if no one has done this before.

I've been looking the the codes in Search.php and I can see that the $search variable is that which stores the words to be searched, right? If that's that case, couldn't I just make an if statement that when the search variable is "*", then the mysql query should search for all posts?

Please tell me if I'm wrong about this.

Yes that would be possible... not sure if $search is the actual variable that contains it or not though...
