[Done 1.5.1] Global Moderator Category Fix

Basically the point of this mod is to prevent Global Moderators from 'seeing' Administrator-only categories. This allows you to choose exactly who can see each category.

This was discussed in this thread in the PHP Scripting Help forum.

Written for YaBB SE 1.5.1RC1(43) - Although it should work with earlier/later Beta versions - under the TOS which you can read here.

Let me know if you run into any problems, but I tested this and didn't find any.

Okay, the issue I am having is this:
I set permissions sor three categories.
My adult section - Admins\Global Mods\"Grown-ups" member groups.
result - Admins and Grown-ups can see the forums, Global mods cannot.

Admin section - Admins\Global mods
result - admins can see it, gms cannot

Super Secret Admin stuff - Admins only
result - Admins can see it, no one else can.

When I do a search with a Global Mod, the Admin\GM only messages show fine, but when I click on the link, GMs get a "you are not allowed blah blah" message.  Recent posts work the same way.  Thread shown, click and get access denied.  I don't think this is because of PfaBB since the lines your mod works with are all present and used by PfaBB without change, but I'll post this message over there, as well.  Maybe I'm missing something...

Update:  I've played with it a bit more, what is happening is that my GM is being reduced to a normal user with Moderator abilities in any forum that a normal user can get to.  GMs cannot see any forum that I allow them specifically to see.

Very odd. When I was testing it it all seemed to work. Perhaps I searched for a line that appeared more than once in the file? I'll look into it anyway.

Can you do me a favour and test this on a normal YaBB SE install? I have just tested it like you did, and I didn't find a single problem. It might have something to do with PfaBB. Or at least it doesn't affect my board at all....

It works fine on a standard install of YaBBSE.  I need to pick people's brains over there...

Any ideas what could cause the behavior?  Just to get me looking the right way?

You'll have to ask Michele, as I'm not at all familiar with PfaBB. It most likely has something to do with members groups in some way or another. Perhaps a mod that is included in the package?

I´ve installed this mod on a fresh build 43 board this morning and on a build 44 with a lot of mods.

Both have the same problem with this mod. Global mods can still see the admins only messages, if they use the "show xx recents posts of this member" on the profile page of an administrator.

Find:

   $permit = 0;
   if ($settings[7] == 'Administrator' || $settings[7] == 'Global Moderator')
      $permit = 1;

Replace:

Code Select Expand

  $permit = $settings[7] == 'Administrator' ? '1' : '0';

Fixes that hole.

As far as I can tell, this was the only hole I could find. The mod works great on a build 44 board.

Its something with my install.  It works perfectly on a standard PfaBB install (tried on the PfaBBs based on RC39-41), and even works on a fresh install with all of my mods added.  Just something about my production site that is screwy.  <shrug>  I'll reinstall completely with the next PfaBB release.
