I can't wait for YaBB SE 2!

After rebuilding my server from scratch, my host finally got my site back up this morning - whoopie!

I'm still looking for alpha testers, preferable someone who likes to live dangerously (read: has a test site to play with so they don't trash their live one). :)

I'm also looking for current YaBB SE modders. If you think your mod belongs in a portal, give me a yell over at my site. Once we've stabilized the major changes, we'd like to build in some more features.

Thanks for everyone's offer of help these last two days!

Ok, so I'm talking to myself, what else is new?  ;D

PfaBB is about to enter the beta testing stages. We need people who are running YaBB SE v1.5.1 or can upgrade, to thoroughly test PfaBB.

Preferably not live sites with heavy traffic, as we update the files alot, including every time YaBB SE does a new RC. If you're running YaPP over 1.4.1 and want to give PfaBB a try, it's not impossible either, just a bit tricky (see my site for details).

If you don't feel ready to beta test, but want your input to be heard, come over to our site anyway and add your requests to our Features forum. We're still trying to add the most requested features to PfaBB, so let us know what they are!

Thanks, Michele

Also if you wish to test it and are running yapp you could convert to YSE 1.5.1 and then to PfaBB with my convertor.

I've been testing it and it seems decent...like any other project (SE included) it could use some docs ;)

Hehe, you're right Jeff! What I need to know is what are the basic questions so I can put them in the docs... the most I've ever done are WinHelp files, and those are just snippets. :)

Hmmm... I would recommend looking into HTML Help - it's easy to make and much nicer.

Look at microsoft.com for the HTML Help Wizard - which is free.

Actually, I used HTML Help Wizard back when I wrote VBPro apps. I meant writing a complete manual vs little help files. Right now I'm filling up my FAQ module with some Q&As... once that has more questions, I can write up something more substantial than a readme.txt file. :)

The complete PHP manual is offered in a chm file.... how is it 'little help files'?

I would recommend getting two files:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/msdnlib/Install/1.32/W9X2KMeXP/EN-US/htmlhelp.exe - HTML Help Workshop

http://download.microsoft.com/download/xml/Utility/2.0/NT5XP/EN-US/msxsl.exe - XSLT command line transformation utility.

Then, right write the documentation up in XML.  After you finish, add in some xslt and dtd files, and compile that into a chm. (I've done it - it works perfectly..)  Then, you can take those same xml files and convert them to pdf (through php, etc.), html, txt, or anything else using that msxsl.exe.

Mind you, msxsl.exe requires either IE 6 or the xsl dll - which comes with a lot of programs so you probably have it either way.

Ah... I see what you're saying now... duh. Heck, I don't know if I can write something as big as the PHP Help file! :)

Hmm... anyone want to be on the PfaBB Dev Team as the doc writer?

I used it to convert the main Boardnation site and it has worked flawlessly.  I tried to comment it a bit as to the configuration options but beyond them I saw no reason to comment.
