Quote from: Killer Possum on January 31, 2003, 09:04:16 PMTempusFugit, what zipping program do you use???

WinZip... It handles perfectly the bmp files (a simple but efficient way to share graphics without loosing quality ;)). Don't forget though that most of the image is only white...

Yes I know... it's just that the program I use seems to zip my image files and it sucks at making it smaller. For instance a .bmp that is 1,234kb will shrink to 1,224 or something :( I will try the same images with WinZip and see what happens, personally I think the program I'm using isn't that great (Alladin Stuffit 7.5 for PC). It's not as simple as WinZip :-\

I think that both are great, but also bandwidth intensive.

Look at the current site.... it looks nice, and it doesn't take terribly much bandwidth.

However, disregarding bandwidth, I must say - those look great!

Trying to keep it simple, but less demanding on the graphic side, this is my first offering...

I like that last one as well. It seems a bit simplistic after the previous one, but thats not necessarily a bad thing -- and it should definitely load faster, if put together correctly. Plus I think it does a fair job of integrating the friendliness of the logo with the professionalistic image the current design portrays.

Edit: Yes, I'm aware that professionalistic isn't a word. ;)

Cool thanks for surprisingly positive comments and tears... I knew I made people cry but never like this! LOL

Heck I love the ones by matt@tcd and TempusFugit and I'd be happy to loose to any two of them!

Sizes for my entry.

ok the image in the topleft corner takes about 9.25K, the headers and top menu item backgrounds are about 0.5-1 K big, but they are mostly the same image, the rest is neglegible, since its YaBB content. There would also be more psacing between the actual menu items, as default by html... but that's not talking file sizes lol

I say at MOST the actual design including tables would be around 12-20 K (at most) (that's not the actual images that are the bulk of the load but in fact the html. I saved the source of one of yabb's pages... the register install one, i got rid of the content and left the menus there, the page itself is 18.5 KB! Images, excluding background images are 11.2 KB!)

People the sizes for the designs here will vary, but by around 10 KB at most, loading times aren't that much of a concern once the images cache, the actual pages are... which is out of the hands of the designer.

The Nav menu on the left looks good, but the logo should be better placed. Otherwise there is too much freespace on the top right corner.

@aliencowfarm
http://clan.dnainternet.net/toohot/public/tiedostot/YFP.png looks great. Somehow, I like the navmenu of strike2death more, because it has a more serious look. strike2death use more edges instead of roundings for the topicdescriptions in the navmenu. That's what I like

Just my 2 cents
