YaBB -> YaBBse converter plus

We have a YaBB board with 4000+ members and 80,000+ posts - needed a converter to something better and DB driven.

I downloaded the converter and tried it - leaves a lot of valuable data behind that killed the conversion effort with our users.

I am now finishing an upgrade to the converter that does the following:

1. Converts all polls and poller data - requires minor mod to poll.php to avoid losing the "who voted for what" info.

2. Carries all attachment information to the new board.

3. Cleans up stray ubbc code in subjects and text.

4. Preserves imstore messages for users.

5. Handles "sticky" posts - bug fix.

In addition there is a PASS 2 that performs the following:

1. Corrects all [quote author .....] messages so they perform the same links as the original board.

2. Corrects all move link references to the new board referencing.

3. Corrects all inter board URL references from the YaBB type to the YaBBse mode.

The converter creates a db table crossreferencing the old -> new board for researching problems - can ve deleted after conversion. It also produces an extensive log of the PASS 2 operations for researching problems.

I am nearly finished with the project and am looking for input on anything else that is needed - I hope to post it before month end.

There will be additional entries and options to set when running it to allow for a better transformation.

I would like to cleanup "long" URL's in PASS 2 also, but have not found a good way to handle it - any ideas appreciated.

Some things that I have discovered to date:

1. Run the converter using Lynx, doesn't time out - requires SSH access to the server. I can convert 4000/80,000 in about 10 minutes on a 1.7 Dell.

2. Dump and reload the database after the conversion and adding the baordindex speedup - helps clean things up very nicely.

Thanks for any input.

Let me try that when you are finished.

It may be what I need for the other BBS.

Are you wrighting it to be compatible with both Gold and SP1.1?

I only have SP1 to work with, I don't think that the Gold would be much different in the data format and availability.

I have just discovered a discrepency in how YaBBse1.4.1 handles moves that concerns me - not very nice. :o

OK, at the most, you should just have to change the first line to 1.1.

I prefer the YaBB transfer form - it is more descriptive - I am changing the code to emulate - like to show where in readable terms and by who.

Is this built into SP1 or a mod?  I am gonna go look at yabbforum but if it is a mod can you please post the url to it.  It is still not too late to get it in 1.5 if we like it.

Thanks, I didn't realize that it was a mod on the YaBB board that I inherited to convert - I figured out how to convert the current ones, just wanted the new ones to follow suit.

I have everything about wrapped up except converting the "read" postion info - finally figured out how to compact URL's and transform from board to board.

Also cleaned up message links.

Good efforts! Would be interested in a Converter that moves the attachments over.

Please let us know when you are ready to release Converter Plus.

Thanks.

well, I'd be interested in (Beta?) Testing this, too. Any news? Do you need any help? I used to have some SQL Knowledge from my studying, perhaps I could help...

sorry for the major bump but I'm seriously interested in this converter as I have a lot of attachments I wouldn't like to lose in a conversion and frankly...that's all that's holding me back from opening an SE board.
Any updates?

I too am interested in this converter.
My Board SP1.1 has a lot of mods and a load of attachments.
I was thinking of going the "install fresh SE version" and converting my posts etc to it.
Do you consider this to be a better way of doing it.
(I hope it's not the same thing, i ask so many stupid questions here :-[)

yeah, the standard converter converts all but the attachments and polls that are included...that's why I look forward to this converter so much cuz my SP1.2 board has about 180 attachments at the moments that I'd really really like to see converted as well..don't care much about losing polls though.
