[Beta 1.4.1] IRC Link to jPilot Applet

I have had several requests from forum operators to integrate a link to an IRC chat applet into YabbSE.  This Mod will add a link icon next to the Logout icon that when clicked will open a new browser window that contains the http://www.jpilot.com IRC browser applet.

There is not much to this Mod, but some might find it handy to have a Mod instead of having to make changes by hand.

Simply edit the constants at the beginning of the ircApplet.php file to customize the behavior and appearance of the jPilot applet.

This mod will add an IRC button next to the existing buttons on the main form.
When the button is clicked, a new window will open with the jPilot IRC applet.

Edit the ircApplet.php file to set the properties for IRC server, Chat Rooms,
autologon, etc.

This script will make minor changes to index.php, subs.php, and english.lng.  In
addition, an irc.gif file will be placed in YabbImages and two files necessary
for the jPilot applet will be placed in YabbSE.

Only one problem with this mod. jPilot is a commercial product. Yes, you can use it without purchasing it, and you get annoying nags. But if you want them to keep fixing bugs and releasing new versions, you should ideally buy a license.

Yes.  I should have added a note about that in the txt file.  It is effectively shareware and will add a nag message after each line you enter in the chat window.  To get rid of the nag, registration (with jPilot not me ) is $49.

I have it where both guests and members can go to the chat, and it carries over the membername or if they are a guest it gives them a nick of guest with a random number.

Yes, this mod will use the user's display name (or login name if they do not have a display name) as the default in the IRC logon screen.

I chose not to allow Guests to access the IRC chat room.

You don't need to register to log into the channels.  You just get in as guest<random number> but you can change that once you get on.

Trying to figure out how to pass user info to the client.
I had to change the applet a bit so that it was signed.  Basicly run the applet from same IP as IRC server.

trmentry, I spoke about the various IRC applets a while ago, search for it if you're interested.

Basically with eirc, you need a certificate to use it, and if you don't use a certificate then Java is restricted to its limited sandbox and so can only connect to IRC servers on localhost. Certificates are expensive, and although on the eirc site it offers a way of signing it without paying, it is both not a proper signing, and most YaBB SE admins wouldn't want to go to that trouble.

jPilot is by far the best of the applets, but it costs $49 to register. Well worth the money if you have a medium-large community.

Thanks.  I searched for you post but wasn't able to find it.  I will keep looking.  

I'm thinking of changing over to jPilot when I get the cash to register it.  I like all of the various ways to pass info to the IRC server.

Just to let everyone know, I am finishing up an irc mod that automatically logs users on with their forum name into a private irc server we have running, and also displays the users who are online on the forum underneath number of messages (though it can be moved). Check it out at http://www.goosemoose.com/rfc I am hoping to release this in the next day or two once I work out a few more bugs (like handling users with spaces in their names). I'm trying to figure out exactly what your mod does.  Is it just an interface mod like mine that logs you into an IRC client?  The client you are using costs $1000 at the bottom end doesn't it?
