Thanks but that didnt work.
Very strange as I didnt have it b4 I updated from 44 to 45

I asked a member to try the same with IE5.5 and she had no trouble at all. So I deleted my cookies,history,closed and restarted the browser with no luck.
My other computer sharing the ISP connection has the same version of IE6 which are both updated etc and is doing the same thing.

refreshing the browser leads to a prompt that says the information has to be resent abd then it goes back to the forum index ok.
Oh well if its my browsers then I will look into that more I guess.. Any help here would be appreciated :)

Here's what's happening, it seems.

You are logging in, going to a board... and then clicking back.  Correct?

When you login, your browser sends data to the forum.  Your browser is built NOT to send this data over again, so when you hit back it tells you, "If you go here, you might post (etc) again!!  Are you sure?"

What you want to do is log in, and then click the home button.  This will send you to a page without sending POST information, and your browser will no longer complain.

So, as was said.... this is a browser issue.

I researched my problem (the signature line spaces between images) a little more and realised I was wrong about Boardnation's version being fixed. The HTML was exactly the same as here so it must be something in the CSS, what I'm not sure of! The most immediate properties were the same between both sources (windowbg &windowbg2).

While the excess font tags is poor coding it doesn't actually change anything in this particular issue.

I don't see how that's buggy.

If you want the search feature to go, say.... 5000x slower, and probably make your server keel over everytime it's ran.... I can fix it.

Anyone interested? :P

And yes, I am serious about it being _much_ slower.

-[Unknown]

Wow, finally someone acknowledges that he/she has the supreme intelligence and power to fix the bug! Hoooorayy!!! The world is saved!!! ;D

OK, it is not a bug, it is merely an inconvenience. :P At Advanced Search, there are 3 options:
Match All Words
Match Any Words
Match As Phrase

Do you mean to tell me that they are redundant options, since whatever you choose you HAVE TO get irrelevant search results?

To those who say it is not buggy, please put up your hand if you use the search function on a daily basis? If not, then you don't know what you are talking about.

I am using YaBBSE for a physics class, and when I want to search for discussion on "ion", I get all sorts of interesting but useless results such as "condensation", "fusion", "station" etc. In other words, the search function is completely hopeless.

[Unknown], when you said that it is not buggy, what you really mean is that one has to choose between buggy and slow. :P

Why is it not possible for the user to choose if he/she wants to "match exact word only" or "match related words". Is mySQL databases really so inferior that it will not be able to efficiently serve search requests?

Thanks for your attention.

i dont know how the search function works, but here's the query if u want to search as a word:
SELECT `subject`,`posterName`,`posterEmail`,`body` FROM `yabbse_messages` WHERE `body` LIKE '% whatever %' LIMIT 0, 30;

where whatever is the word u're looking for

wonder which one is faster, using LIKE or INSTR()...

i heard mysql 2.23.x or 4.x has match() function that works good for searching for text patterns...

Spaceman-Spiff, I would say LIKE is much faster....

shy hamster, I don't think it's a bug.  Here's how it works:

If you type in "the really cool hamster" and select "any words", it will look for:
- posts that have "the"
- posts that have "really"
- posts that have "cool"
- posts that have "hamster"
And return the results.

If you type the same phrase, "the really cool hamster" and select "all words", it will look for:
- posts that have "the"
- AND have have "really"
- AND have have "cool"
- AND have have "hamster"
Adn return the results.

If you type that phrase, "the really cool hamster" again, but select "as phrase", it will look for:
- posts that have "the really cool hamster"
And return the results.

Not that "gthe really cool hamster" would be matched in ANY and all of the search types.

an easy fix to search 1 word (match whole word)
edit Search.php
search for:                     <option value="asphrase">' . $txt[345] . '</option>add after:                     <option value="wholeword">Match whole word</option>
search for:   else if ($searchtype == 'asphrase' )
      $searchtype = 3;
add after:   else if ($searchtype == 'wholeword' )
      $searchtype = 4;

search for:      $query = strtolower($query);add after:      $query = ($searchtype == 4) ? ' ' . $query . ' ' : $query;

what the mod does is add spaces between the word, the weakness is it wont find words that are the first word or at the end of a sentence (uses punctuation), might be solved by using REGEXP or some pattern matching...

@shy hamster: try the code above to find the 'ion' ;)

Just like to say that I've been messing with a few features on the new board (1.5.1 RC45), and would just like to report no noticeable errors - certainly not around any of the main function.

Ah - now here's a potential issue - hide e-mail preference checked in member profile still allows an e-mail icon in posts linked to that e-mail address in member posts.

another little improvement idea for Search.php:

replace:      $start = (floor($start/$maxmessagedisplay))*$maxmessagedisplay; with:      $start = (floor($start/$maxmessagedisplay))*$maxmessagedisplay . '#msg' . $row['ID_MSG'];
and add m.ID_MSG, in the 2nd SELECT statement above it
this will make the link in the search result to direct to the exact post, not just the topic
