I have done some testing on my forum with searchnew and found no problems, thanks Forge for 1 of my most used mods.

I have reinstalled this mod after going from 1.4.0 to 1.4.1. and it works ok.

Is it possible to make the mod strip off all the tags from the start of the posts?

I mean when a user uses tags like [ b][/ b] to format their message. It would be more useful if the start of the topic in the search new messages wouldn't show them and take space of the start.

Yeah, you can do it by editing SearchNew.php.  Look for the line that says:

Code Select Expand

$shortbody=eregi_replace("([<][a-zA-Z].*[>])+"," ",$shortbody);
That line removes all the HTML codes "<*/>" from the text using regular expressions.  Yours might have a "*" instead of a ".*" since I just added that recently to fix some unusual HTML <br> codes recently introduced in 1.4.1.

In any case, you would just add your own line underneath this one to further remove the brackets.

FYI, the reason I didn't do this is because it gets screwy because of quote codes.  For example if the first line is John quoting Mark, the output makes it look like John is saying what mark said.  In any case, you'll understand when you try it yourself.

 heh so what's the error when I have my index.php, and all files in /Sources , english.lng CHMOD to 666, and still get

 fopen ( index.php /w ) in line 350      ...

Modification would have completed if this weren't a test, so if there were no errors, the mod could be applied, hit the back button in your browser.

You've probably already done this, but in any case.  Most likely this is because you've installed another mod that has already changed stuff.  The install works on a base install of YABB.

In any case, my mod is very simple....you could put in the edits manually in about 5 minutes.  Just look at the test apply mod page and make those changes manually.

New Version Available

I've updated the Search New function.  It now accounts for the strange HTML that YABBSE produces (for some strange reason BR tags are <BR /> in 1.4.1 instead of <BR>).

I also added a new admin cleanup feature which you can run manually:

yourboardlocation/index.php?action=searchnew_cleanup

You will probably want to run this command a couple times a year depending on how much traffic your board gets. Basically this command will "prune" the log_topics table.  Normally this table will becomebecome filled with one record for each member for each topic they read.  Over time that can become a lot of rows in this table and really slow down your searches (I just ran it on my board and went from 50,000 rows to 4000 rows).  As far as the users are concerned, this command will mark all topics over 30 days old as read.   It doesn't affect any records within the last 30 days.

OK, I used my PacMan to install v 0.8 since I'm using 1.4.1.

Installation was very smooth (this is the first Mod I install, and the only one so far!). True I encountered some minor problems upon running the Mod, but this had nothing to do with the Mod. It was related to how I set up my board.

Anyway, it's perfect since then (two weeks ago).

As for YaBBC tags, I checked the SearchNew.php file and found the code line to strip off tags exactly as you pointed out. Nevertheless, YaBBC tags are still display in message caption!

Yesterday, I logged in to my forum to discover that the SearchNew icon has disappeared from the menu! Refreshed, cleaned my browser cache; no use. Tried today from work; same thing... Tried using code to utilise the search and it worked fine! It is only the icon that disappeared, not the function!...

What could be wrong Forge?
