well, if you set logging length to 0 does that do the same thing?

I re-enabled clicks, set length to 0 then un enabled them as per [Unknown]'s instructions above, so it shows only 1 click in the logs, now it appears to be lightning again........

I will keep you informed.

Page created in 1.169 seconds.

A bit slow, but still not too bad.  How much RAM's on the box, and how many other sites are on the same server as you?

it is much better now, coz last night I went into MyAdmin and did a repair all tables and optimise all tables.

seems that the optimise in the board admin centre doesnt do it right as doing it manally compacted the DB by another 0.1MB's

and now its faster than you can believe....

didnt work I'm afraid.

did it this morning, members still getting 7sec+ page load times  ???

Dear Egg, let me ask you. Your forum now is much faster. Is it because of the repair and optimise or because of disable of the log clicks?

I would go for both.  Almost certainly both.

The click log and the activity log are completely different.  The click log is cleared every hour, and hence does not store anything except what browsers and IPs have visited the forum.

The Stats page is made from the activity log, which this does not disable.

But I did the *mod* you suggested and the refferals stopped appear.

if you have shell access to your server, I'd recommend using a cronjob to optimize and repair the database.

Example:
Create a shell script like this:

#!/bin/sh

mysqlcheck --all-databases --auto-repair --extended --optimize -uroot -ppasswort

(replace "root" and "passwort" with your data of course, but be sure to keep the -u and -p !)
Now edit your /etc/crontab
Add the following line:

5 1 * * * root /path/to/script

relace the correct path to the script above, make sure the script's chmod allow execution, adjust runtime for the script:
the above example will run the script every day at 1:05am, but feel free to change that. Example:

5 7,19, * * * root /path/to/script

this will run the script twice a day, at 7:05am and 7:05pm (19:05).

I did the disable log clicks about 5 days ago, and yesterday members were complaing of 20+ second load times as displayed on page.

I did the clean active log, repair tables, recount all boards, empty forum log, and then optimize DB, all from the admin centre of the board. no difference. 8 hours later still getting long load times.

went into phpMyAdmin and decided I had to start fiddling (ugh!) so i repaired and optimised each table on its own, one by one.

my DB went from 38.8MB to 38.7MB in size

now getting load times of 0.2 or less.

I will be doing the phpMyAdmin optimise and repair once a day ;)

I dont ahve shell access as yet....thats my next job, to upgrade to dedicated server and full admin access...but I ave to be sure they wont lose any data from the DB as I am unsure as to the integrity of my DB backups.....
