Converting from SP-1.3.1 to SE-1.5.4

Has anyone had "ANY" luck with the converter converting from sp131 to se154 at all?

I tried it this morning and it hosed the settings and things and I had to re-install SE again.

It is looking like i may have to just start SE out of the box and not convert any of my Data files over to SE, and that is going to be sad especially for the users of my board.

Sure could use some pointers here, and here is what I am converting from:

I have ran YaBB SP for about 2+ years on a Unix server and am switching to another server "WITH" the same provider just will be on another server there that is a Windows NT server.

What I did to try converting is as follows:
I backed the full board off the Unix server onto my system.
Then made a folder structure the same on the Windows server as it was on the UNIX.
Then put the converter.php file on the windows server in my site root where it was above the old setup folders of my SP and also above the yabbse folder of SE.

And would not work for me just kept crashing.

Anyone that has had any luck with the converter on a switch like this?

Thanks in advance!
I'm going to get some ZZzzzzzz's been a long 30-34 hours!   8)

Have you tried simply converting to 1.5.1 then upgrading the 1.5.1 to 1.5.4?

I'm not sure if the converter works for SP 1.3 but it worked for SP 1.2 since I used it myself to successfully convert.

It might help if you gave some details on which steps the converter would crash on and what error messages you recieved.

Shadow, I have gotten about 11 1/2 hours of sleep now and am feeling better!   ;)
I have 1.5.4 just installed and nothing added to it just out of the box and here are the screens the converter gives me:

1st. startup screen:

This program will convert an existing Y1G (<= SP1.2) board into an existing Yabb SE (1.5.1) install.

I get that same error warning for hundreds of lines down the screen then at the bottom where it crashes here is the last few lines on the screen:

Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid Directory resource in X:\xxxxxxx\xxxxxxx\converter.php on line 382

And there is where I sit with a corrupted settings.php file and I have to either re-install the board or like now put the backup I judt did back on the server. . . .

Any Ideas or suggestions Please!?

Correction to the above that I could just copy the backup back in over the server!

That did not work and I had to totally re-install the board again to get it to work again . . . .    >:(

I think the problem here was the fact of clicking the box to adjust the DB tables with!  (not sure but makes sence to me!?)

Oh! Well that is the pitfalls of a webmaster ain't it!    :D

Another question here . . .

I under stand that a guy CAN take the time an edit all the dat files in the SP Members, and Messages folders so you can then use the Control Panel to get to your MySql DB and put them in there so SE will utilize them!?

I also understand this will be a BIG JOB! to say the least.

But the format to edit them to, is what I need to know to do this editing.

Like if someone could post a copy of each type of the files that are used by SP with what it should look like after editing in a text editor to put in the DB with the Control Panel would be a big help towards getting started on this.

I have a few people that could help on this task, BUT! we need a template of each type of files in the Members and Messages folders to go from.

Does any one have or know if there is a link to such a template or know where I can find this info at?

If not and someone can take the time to send or post the info here that would be very Cool!

Here is a list of the type of files I see in the 2 folders:

Members
*.dat
*.log
*.msg
*.outbox
*.yam

Messages
*.data
*.txt
*.mail

I would like to know what an example of each of these are compaired to what they need to look like to make this work. And if there is a place to find this would be great!

I had the same problems when trying to convert from YABB 1.3.1 to SE 1.5.4... but converting to 1.5.1  worked (except for a load of "Notices" and some lost threads and messages :'( )

But why nobody from support staff can't answer why threads and messages are lost.
I think it ok, if only 1-10 threads are lost, but not over 50, as in my case.  >:(

Probably because they had polls or other mods that changed the topics, or the date stamps were bad, which also happens with one of the mods out there for Yabb Gold.

No polls added on my site, also I don't think there's any mods installed that actually change any of the board or message txt files.
I admit that there is a possibility that there may be corruption somewhere though... not sure how I can check that witht he size of board that I'm trying to convert  ???

maybe the solution is to uninstall all mods before conversion?

As I see, most threads have no poll attached.

And I have rebuild message index. And run it twice to correct all my files before conversion, but it still doesn't help.  :'(

I couldn't get a straight 1.3.1-->1.5.4 conversion to work either, for whatever reasons.  We installed 1.5.3, converted, and then upgraded to 1.5.4.  This thread tells how we did it:

A what point are you getting the errors?  During the board set up, or during conversion?
