Help! Weird 500 Problem

YaBB SE Version: 1.5.4
PHP Version: 4.3.2
MySQL Version: 3.22.x
Server Platform: Unix, Linux, or BSD
Link to Forum: http://hogville.net/yabbse

Problem Description:
Suddenly today, our 1.5.4 SE forum started giving a 500 Internal Server Error message.  We contacted our webhost, who said it looked like the software had been damaged or corrupted, and that we needed to reinstall.

Question 1:  Is this really what's wrong?  I've check the file permissions, and they seem to be right.

Question 2:  We've got a lot of posts in our forum.  If I had to reload the software, can I keep the posts and get the new software up?

Do you have any Mods installed on your forum?

Have you tried repairing the database itself via phpMyAdmin?

IF you don't have any physical mods installed, download the Safe Mode package, and upload everything BUT Settings.php.

If you DO have Mods installed, you'll have to go about this a different way.

Please answer the first two questions first, before doing anything.  :)

No, and no.  I've never tried to use phpMyAdmin.

This happens a lot when tables get locked because the server got shutdown.  You'll have to go in and REPAIR all your tables.

You can do it pretty easily in phpmyadmin, if your host has it installed (most do). Or you can install it yourself. Alternatively, if your host allow you shell access (Telnet or SSH), then it's pretty easy to do from a command prompt as well - If you prefer the latter, I can give you all the details.

But the easiest way would be via phpmyadmin, so check and see first if your host have it available for you.

Your issue lies within your host, you need to talk to them about moving some databases around to allow for more connections to the database server.

Newton, can you open a new thread and state your specific problem, please?  There's two other separate issues on this thread.  Thanks!

Sorry, I thought mine sounded like the same thing here...shows how computer stupid I am...I got the same 500 message as Mike Bonds, and also earlier the same one as Southernsports reported.  I was trying to not start a new thread about the same problem, and just follow along with this one, but I guess mine must be different?

Newton, here's the kicker.  When someone posts a new thread, we ask for information, which will assist us with troubleshooting your problem.  While the end results might be the same, the causes could be different.  Plus, when you fill out the information requested, that helps us (and you) out, so that we don't have to ask for information over and over.  Your server's configuration could very well be different than anyone else's, and this info will help a lot.  :)

Mike, do you know where your phpMyAdmin is located/installed?  If not, contact your host to get this info.  If you don't have it installed, then go to www.phpmyadmin.net and download it there.  Follow the installation instructions (it's actually VERY easy to do, just a couple changes here and there).

Once you have it installed, log into phpMyAdmin with your MySQL username and password.  On the left side, locate your database and select it.  On the right side, you'll see a list of all your tables there.  Scroll down to the bottom.  Select CHECK ALL.  In the drop down list to the right of that, select REPAIR.  Do the same step again, this time, select OPTIMIZE.

If you need more help beyond that, come back here and let me know.  I am extremely jam packed with paying customers today, I might be able to squeeze you in somewhere...
