That's right! It's back! The mod you've all been waiting for - the ever popular Moods Mod. This mod is based on the Moods Mod for YaBB SE 1.4x by Jedi.

This mod is only for use with YaBB SE, YaPP and PfaBB. If you wish to use it for any other forum, you need to contact me first.

I have spent several hours testing this out to make sure everything works, so you shouldn't run into any problems. I won't go into detail about everything I did with this mod, but I will say that it is a big improvement over the other one. If you would like detailed information about what I changed/improved, just go to http://members.lycos.co.uk/oldiesmann/yabbse and look for the thread called "Mood Mod Technical Stuff" in the "General" topic.

You can also preview the mod from the user's viewpoint at that site... (Login: test | Password: YaBBSE). I am working on getting screenshots together for this mod.

Version 1.4 - released 5/20/03

This version fixes a few bugs found in the first one and improves the overall usability of the mod. Moods are now displayed on one line instead of two, and users cannot change their mood to something that isn't installed in the database. I also fixed the problem with moods not getting updated in the posts, as well as added titles to the Add Moods and Edit Moods tables and improved the look of those tables.

I posted this in your forum too...does anyone have this in production?  Does it basically look the same visually as the last version?

Yeah... The user's mood still shows up in the posts and on their profile, but it will say "Your mood" next to the mood you selected. One other thing I didn't mention - you will no longer get redirected back to the main board index when you change moods - All I had to do was remove a couple of lines telling it to include boardindex.php and run the boardindex function.

So it's still a mood tag that you can add anywhere in your template to display the selectable current mood?

Yep. After installing it, just add <yabb mood> to your template someplace. One thing: If you're viewing a thread when you change moods, you will go back to the topic index... As soon as I figure out how to get it to stay in the same place, I'll update this...

Minor Update:
I forgot to set this up to put a space in between each mood, so right now they will appear to be smashed together sort of... Anyway, here's the fix:

In Subs.php
search for:

Ok. Just noticed that I forgot to fix a couple of things in the addmoods function in moods.php from when I was testing it. I originally had it set to add up to 10 moods at a time, but decided 5 would be best. Unfortunately, I forgot to delete the extra table rows. Also, I forgot to make $imagesdir a global variable. If you have already installed this mod, just click here and download Moods.php.zip. Then overwrite your copy of moods.php with this version.

One question :

I had this mod on an older version, and ofcourse it worked great, BUT :

normally you can choose a mood by clicking one of the smilies.  I had some users using the URL for this to get a mood that didn't show in the row of smilies.

To show you what I mean, I registered on your test-board as Webby, and use another .gif to get another mood :

Could you do something about this by using javascript to change the mood or something ?  Or what about sessions ?

Not a big deal, but when there are BIG .gif's in the YaBBImages directory, it would get very annoying when people start using them

Well, I never really thought about that... I'll see what I can do as far as javascript. I'm not that familiar with it, but it shouldn't be too difficult to do. I see what you mean about users being able to set their own moods like that, and I will definitely try to do something to fix that...

Ok... I fixed the bug with the mood not being updated in the posts, but there are a few more things I want to do with this mod, so I will be releasing an updated version soon...

That's probably related to the same bug that's causing the moods to not be updated in the posts. I'm going to release an updated version of this mod in a little bit. That should fix it.

New version released! See the link above to download! (I decided to use my "student homepage" for a mods download site - after checking with the university to make sure it was ok). Enjoy! I think I fixed all the bugs in this one, but as always, if you find any, let me know.
