How to activate email in my forums?

Hi Everyone!  Could anyone tell me how to activate email in my forums?  So that I can receive my password within five seconds or less.  What free server allows e-mails to be sent such as this?  Is my board My Community updated as much as it can be?  For example version 1.5.2 some of my files are 1.5.1.  Can someone upgrade them to the latest version 1.5.2?  Thanks for your time.

if your server doesnt support the mail function you wont be able to send emails.

only a few files are ver 1.5.2, do a detailed version check to be sure that you are all upto date.

You misunderstood Scottys reply. 1.5.2 only consists of a few changed files, so you are up to date if a lot of the files are still dated as 1.5.1.

In regards to e-mail, YaBB SE can use either of two methods for e-mail - The first one is via the PHP built-in mail() function, which generally sends e-mail via Sendmail but can be configured in php.ini on the server to send via SMTP instead. The second method is via connecting to a SMTP server with authentication (I e by logging in with username/password).

Jason Neskar, you are misunderstanding something, your board *is fully* upgraded to 1.5.2!

Hopefully you did not overwrite the 1.5.2 sources by something else.

Cannot help it, I start to think installing boards for other people is somehow ungrateful. 2 days later looking for another fool to install your board on a different server...

Thats harmless. It says 1.5.1 in several places in spite it is a clean 1.5.2.

Oh alright.  How do upload those files in binary and ASCII?  How do you chmod?  I am using LeapFTP to access my yabbse forums.  Where can I download the smileys in your signature?

Being that we will only support YaBB SE, I'll answer in YSE related format.

I might set up a different kind of forums and they all require you upload in ASCII or binary?

Different forums require different formats.  For YaBB SE, install.php needs to be uploaded in ASCII format, *.ya needs to be uploaded in binary.

For WS_FTP Pro, click ADVANCED PROPERTIES.  Make sure Start Up Transfer Mode is set to Auto Detect.  Connect to your FTP space.  Click on your options button and go to Extensions.  Add in the following extensions, one at a time:
.asp
.cfg
.cgi
.conf
.css
.htm
.html
.ini
.js
.lng
.log
.php
.php3
.pl
.sh
.shtml
.sql
.tcl
.tpl
.txt

You do not need to add in any other extensions.  Click apply and then OK.  Your all set with automatically determining whether a file is uploaded in ASCII or Binary.  I cannot help with LeapFTP, as I do not use it.

CHMOD is easy, it's been covered several times.  All you need to do on WS_FTP is on the right window pane is right click and select CHMOD.  It's VERY clear, concise and direct.

Maybe click on the image in her signature?
