PHP uninstalled?

Since several hours, there is a strange problem in my board:
php files are not parsed any longer. The browser asks if it should download or open the file, when you select "open" the full source code is showing up.

I am sure that the ISP has some trouble with the server. Looks like the guy did uninstall php, right?

Andrea, they may either have removed PHP or they have upgraded or changed their webserver (Apache/IIS for example) and removed the information needed to run PHP.

The guy seems to have restored php, however again with register globals set to "off". Thanks to your fix the board is running again now.

Furthermore another feature has changed on the host: "index.php" is not taken any longer as directory index, only "index.html". Is this missing feature also visible in phpinfo();, and which variable is this?

The index.php is set in the web server software. Sounds like they upgraded it and the settings didn't all come over. Get them to add that back in :)

Ok I tried to get him add the "index.php" back into the index files.

The phenomena are getting weird. I thought the board is running again, but just discovered a new strange problem:
If you try to activate a password reminder the error "username does not exist" appears, instead of the password reminder input form.

Is the server not yet really up or could this problem be caused by special php settings on the webserver?

This is my current phpinfo (might change if there are still server works in progress):
http://www.1eltern.ch/php-test.php

The "worldmap" is furthermore not working any more, that means the map shows as broken image symbol. I did add already "your register globals off" fix into the files, but that did not help. Still the broken image symbol.

Addition: The password reminder problem is also in my 1.4 test board on this host.

@andrea you can with an .htaccess make your own directoryindex!

only make an .htaccess file with

DirectoryIndex index.php index.shtml index.html index.htm

Will a .htaccess file not slow down the website?

My impression for example with the yabb.info board here is that for instance
http://www.yabb.info/community is since several days loading much slower than
http://www.yabb.info/community/index.php
I have seen somewhere that a .htaccess file was added here a few days ago ...

Anyway it's maybe wiser to wait another day if maybe the server settings do improve, before I start changing sources or site settings? The board worked fine until sunday night, and then suddenly the problems started, without me having changed anything.

@andrea a .htaccess will not affect the speed of your site because the server so or so check the existens of such a file! if your server work with httpd.conf or with .htaccess makes absolutly no matter!

Thanks for the answers, mediman and Jeff.

The board looks working again so far as I can see (with one exception: member map). The guy activated index.php in httpd.conf. Also register globals is set to "on" again. The password reminder problem has disappeared. If there are further problems I will open a new thread, this one started to mix up lots of different subjects.

Thanks again.
