How do I prepare the best way?

Soon I'm going to convert my Gold SP 1.1 into SE 1.3.
I'm a bit worried reading here about all the problems that can be... It seems that wrong paths is the most common thing, so I'll be aware of that.

It doesn't worry me very much if my template wont work, or if some of the whole bunch of mods I have wont... But can this things cause problems with the conversion?

Would it be better to get rid of all that fancy stuff before, so that I will have a "clean" SP 1.1 before I convert?

The most important thing to me is that the conversion will work smoothly, all the extras I can fix afterwards.

Biggest problem I have seen - people using wrong paths.  Wrong permissions runs a close second.

Basically, most mods won't convert over but you will get your messages and members.

The other thing.  Back up!  Zip your SP1 install and stick it somewhere safe.  That way if something happens to it in the conversion process, very unlikely, you won't have lost anything.

I guess, although the converter doesn't do anything to the Sp1 files but read them...
