Is anyone working on a Karma Mod?

I was wondering if anyone was working on a karma mod where...

Karma is assigned in a different way rather than the "applaud" and "smite" such as gaining a point of karma for every post you write in a certain period of time
(e.g. if you post 1 post in an hour you get 1 karma but posting 2 posts still only gets you 1 karma perhaps to deter flooding abuse)

You can gain ranks with certain amounts of karma

You can lose karma if a moderator has to mod/delete a post for a bad reason.

Gaining ranks will give you more privileges such as being able to create polls, seeing special boards etc.

I have absolutely no experience or knowledge of php whatsoever just to let you know otherwise I would try doing this myself.

Do you have an example for us all?  If we can see this in action, maybe someone can come to the rescue.

Well, maybe it really looks a bit like RPG mod.
But that more posts in an hour => less karma is bothering me.
Some members come to board, write say 6 posts in 30 minutes and then leave for say 6 or 12 hours. Should they now get minus points to karma because of more posts in an hour? I dont think so.
Still it's a good idea, if it'll use average values.

Let me straighten the time idea up here.

For example lets say someone posted 1 post in an hour.
He would get +1 karma.

Now lets say he posted 2 posts in that same hour instead of one. He would still receive +1 karma.

I have to say that an "averaging" idea would be nicer but there is a downfall to that and all these types of mods... It tends to encourage flooding and meaningless posts just made to raise the post count.

The ultimate solution which is far too complicated is to cater to 2 types of people:
1) Those that come once a day for an hour or so.
2) Those that check back constantly.

The Ultimate question is:  how could you incorporate both?

BTW, this entire idea stems from the Gamefaqs message boards. Their boards' interface and options are no good but their Karma idea is what keeps them alive.

Here's the scoop at gamefaqs:

When you sign up you start at 0 karma and at level 10.
After a day or so you are leveled up to level 15 if your karma is in the positive territory. At certain threshholds, you are leveled up higher and you gain privileges. Karma is gained one day at a time. You get 1 karma if you post a "good" post in that day. However, you can lose karma if you have to be modded. You can even be "suspended" for having negative karma. This system works well since it does encourage quality posting but I guess it discourages those that spend their entire lives posting...

There is a big difference between this mod and the rpg mod although it is not very evident.

-The rpg mod gives you exp for every good post you make.

-The karma mod gives you exp for every good post you make in a period of time.

Basically (for you physics people) it is the same as the difference between distance and velocity. Distance is well... distance. Velocity is distance over time.
