Installation Problems - Internal Server Error

YaBB SE Version: 1.5.5
PHP Version: 4.3.0 to 4.3.3
MySQL Version: 4.0.x
Server Platform: Unix, Linux, or BSD

Problem Description:
Hi!  I'm having problems installing YabbSE into my BuildtoLearn account.  After creating a directory, CHMODing it to 777, and uploading the files, install.php by ASCII, and yse155.ya by Binary, when I go into the install file, I get the following error:

QuoteInternal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Has anyone seen this before or knows what to do?  Out of curiosity, would this happen if php was in Safe Mode?

Is install.php 777?  This might happen in cgi mode.

Hmm, the install started working, without me doing anything?  Strange.  How however, after completing a successful install, I get the same error again!  ???
Here's the site of the forums, so you can see the error yourself:  http://quinnmarket.buildtolearn.net/yabb/index.php
And yes, I have a database set up correctly and from the looks of phpMyAdmin it appears to be operating correctly with 24 tables...
Oh, and after the installation, what should my forum folder be CHMODed to?  I've tried it at 777 and 755...

Is index.php 777?

Forum folder itself is not the most important part.

No, should it be?  I've tried it at 777 and 666 and I still get the same error...

After setting it to 644, it appears to be working now...
Finally...
Thanks for your help.  I assume you're the [unknown] from SimpleMachines, good luck with the new forum system.  I can't wait to see a 1.0 product of it... ;)

As in 1.0 final, rather than 1.0 public beta, which is out now?

I actually use 1.0 Public Beta on another set of boards I admin, it's quite nice, although I still can't wait for the final... ;)
