Failure in submission of form. Session timeout.

I keep getting this error "Failure in submission of form. Session timeout."  I looked on a lot of the FAQ's on this site as well as Message board posts, and so far (at least in my opinion) nothing seems to fit exactly.  I hope that someone can help me.  I do have access to upgrade software on the server, within reason, as it is a Virtual Private Server.

Yabbse: http://normalheights.org/forum/
Phpinfo: http://normalheights.org/phpinfo.php

I checked that $cookiename was in the Settings.php, and I even looked in my /tmp directory how session.save_path is set, and noticed created sessions.  My server time does match my local browser time, or at least really close to it.

Thank you for your time, and if you need any more information, please let me know.

Okay, I came across this same problem with one of my client's servers.  If you can, you should upgrade to the latest PHP version, but nothing older than 4.2.3.  I tried everything in the book to get his YSE to work with 4.1.2, we ended up doing an upgrade to 4.3.x (whichever one's the latest) and that fixed his problems.

Try that out and you should be up and running.

Thanks for including a PHPinfo.php.  That did help a lot!

FYI, the issue deals with '--enable-mbstring' '--enable-mbstr-enc-trans' on 4.1.2, which has a known bug (upgrading fixes that bug)

Hey, I may be wrong some of the time, but the things I'm right about are based on personal experience (and having to deal with this on two different boxes with different packages).

Did a bit of investigative work on php.net and found that there are confirmed issues, hence why I think we really do need to raise the requirements up to 4.2.3 at a minimum, or 4.1.2 without the two above flags compiled (actually need to be physically disabled at compile time).

For the record, it's a bit hard to track down, so I've happily enclosed the two direct links that are testiment to what I found with 4.1.2 through 4.2.3 (later versions of CVS were fixed).

http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=19404

http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=19460

Glad to help, [Unknown].

[Edit] [Unknown], you should state 4.2.3 or higher for the version they should upgrade to.  There were problems with previous CVS's (as verified by the two above links), and they had to re-release 4.2.3 via CVS once they found the bug.   Any version indicated at 4.2.3 or newer (including 4.3.x) have the correct build/fixes.  It's strongly recommended that they go with the latest Stable 4.3.x, as the bug has been hard fixed within the source instead of being a patched version.

Well... I've seen it work on PHP 4.1.0.

What does this bug affect?  What is it caused *by*?  Why only in the post screen?

Question.... do you have an extra server I can test my project on with PHP 4.1.2?

Okay, now I am really happy!  I wanted to thank Douglas again for his help.   I now have PHP 4.3.1 and no problems at all.  I'm not done updating everything, but the finished product can be found at:

Hmmm..

I am running on PHP 4.2.2 and are getting this error.

You will see this error sometimes, when the session times out.
