Comparing Isp addresses

I was just wondering if there is any way to check ISP addresses to see if people are joining the board under multiple names.

But, I digress... thanks for the well wishes, and I hope you have had a great Christmas, and continue to have a wonderful holiday - in fact, I hope you have a wonderful year .

It depends... for example, my hostname is this:
adsl-66-125-214-***.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net

Now, this will be the same for about three days... and then it will change.  Someone else, then, will have my hostname - and they won't be able to register.

Further, if I were on a College campus, it would block everyone who went to the same college.

However, if your forum-goers are generally less-than computer literate, it may be effective simply to set a cookie saying they've already got an account.... I can tell you how to do that, if you want.

I'd appreciate you telling me how to add the cookie.  Please keep in mind I am not too crash hot with computers and only have my board thanks to the kindness of people who have been willing to help me out along the way. It's greatly appreciated.

All you have to do, then, is open up Sources/Register.php and find the following:

Code Select Expand

   updateStats('member');

Add after that line...

Code Select Expand

setcookie('registered', '1', time() + 525600 * 60, '/', '.puntroadend.com');

Then, find this:

Code Select Expand

if ($regagree == "no")

And change it to:

Code Select Expand

if ($regagree == 'no' || isset($_COOKIE['registered']))

(this will give them a message telling them they didn't read the agreement if they had already registered before.)

Where do i open Sources/Register.php? I looked in the FTP at sources and only found register.pl  so I gather I'm on the wrong track.  I haven't done anything like that before so guess now is a good time to learn.

Then you must be looking in the wrong place because .pl is for perl not php. That url to the board you showed us is php... do you have more than one board installed on your domain?

Remember, YaBB uses perl/flatfile, YaBBSE uses PHP/MySQL.

Hiya Chris,

I only have one board.  The address is http://puntroadend.netfirms.com/yabbse/index.php

I used to have another one before the yabbse.  Maybe the one I saw on my FTP is from my other board?  If so how do I find the yabbse one?

Did you have a YaBB board before you got a YaBBSE board?

In your ftp just look for the "yabbse" folder, that is where everything from this board should be.
