YaBB SE Version: 1.5.4
PHP Version:
MySQL Version:
Server Platform:
Link to Forum: http://www.gamerulers.com/yabbse

Problem Description:
I'm getting an error when I try to go to the Forum Preferences in Admin.  I'm not the owner of the forum, so I don't know all the details about PHP versions or whatnot.. but it is on 1.5.4.

It shows me several things I can change, then shows me The error:

QuoteAn Error Has Occurred!

2: dir(): SAFE MODE Restriction in effect. The script whose uid is 501 is not allowed to access /home/virtual/gamerule/home/httpd/html/yabbse owned by uid 661
(/home/virtual/site159/fst/var/www/html/yabbse/Sources/Admin.php ln 1151)

Any suggestions?

check the ownership of the admin.php file and the forum dir, most ftp programmes show/can show which unix user owns a file/dir.

Ok, I talked to the webmaster, and she said "For some reason, the sources are owned by a user called "501"

Yeah.  So she couldn't change it or anything (Like chmodding, or whatnot)... any ideas?

Sure she can.  Just log in as root, and then say:

chown user:group Admin.php

(etc.)

Download the whole forum directory, then delete it, then reupload it, that should hopefully fix it, bear in mine it may take a while if you have a large number of attachments.

Alternatively, ask the host to chown everything to the user they should be.
