Please Help! Trouble with Smilies! Arrrgh!

Problem Description:
Hi!  Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong area.  

A friend of mine just created a yabb forum, and I am one of her mods.  She is having trouble adding more smilies to the smiley list, and she's enlisted my help.  She gave me access to her administrative area, and I have had no luck in figuring out how to add more smilies to the "more smilies" area.  All of the information I've found so far is of little help to me - it's very vague.  

I did download the "Boardmod" program, and even after reading the FAQ's I still have no idea what to do with it.    Is that program necessary - or is there an easier way?

I am a fast learner, but I've never worked on this type of project before.  Is there any way someone can explain to me in layman's terms, how to add more smilies, while also keeping the standard ones?  

Our goal is to add our own custom smilies to the forum, as well as a few others that we've found at places on the net.  

I'm not sure what version of yabb or "Add More Smilies" she's using.  She has given me total access to her admin controls - is there a way I can find out that way?  Also, is this something that I will be able to complete from my PC do, or will she as the creator of the forum, need to do that?  She has web design experience, but this smiley thing has really puzzled her (and myself).  Any information will be greatly appreciated.

It should be possible to install a mod manually by following the search and replace instructions with a text editor.

Any further problems with the mod should be posted to the appropriate thread in the Completed Mods board. There are also a number of related topics on hacking the code yourself, including at least one I've previously posted to which I'll try to dig up for you.

Start by checking the 'Powered by YaBB SE' link at the bottom of very page (admin not necessary). Or Admin Center -> Your Version/Current Version.

You can do it all from your PC, but you'll need FTP access and an FTP client to complete it.

sounds like the same problem i had.

• First you gotta make sure the smileys you want to put into the forum are hosted; either by you or another site.
  
• Next, once you place the smiley into the "forum/smilies" folder, the smiley code is :nameof smilie goes here:
  
• The smiley name = name of smiley.gif(it can be gif, or jpeg)
  
• The description is whatever you want to describe it.
