ack new admin help ple

Problem Description:
ack i am attempting to assist my friend in updating our board, thus i am learning to use your software in a matter of hours. we are updating from 1.51rc1 to 1.54(hopefully) and i have a couple of questions ...


1) in an attempt to locate and download a 1.51 updae download i could not locate one.. i do not have access to the server and might not have this access available to me ever. thus i cant install this patch barring the hope  that there is a copy of this patch hidden away on some patch server...



2) how do i back up? once again without server access i have no idea about how to begin backing up.. should i wanr our users of a possible total loss?


3) once we get these patches installed and get in the groove of keeping the software patched, will this become an easier process?

thank you largely for the input and possible solutions to my problem ... having been up for 48 hours or so i am going to try to dream all this away for now...

Use the package server to upgrade:

i have gotten that far but there is no 1.51 update on that list just a 1.52 and up. do i just patch 1.52?

i would really like to backup the information in the board.. any help on that?

Do the 1.5.1 upgrade then download the 1.5.2 update, 1.5.3 update and 1.5.4 update.

You'll need to upload all the 1.5.1 upgrade files, and run upgrade.php.

With 1.5.2, 1.5.3 and 1.5.4, you'll just need to upload the files in there.  No database modifications are done with those versions

there is no 1.51 upgrade on the http://www.yabbse.org/packages/bugs
server.. just 1.50 and 1.52+

thats where the issue lies sorry about being vauge it was 4 am and i had been up since 8 am...

also any help on backup? or will i need access to my boards server?

Look for the line that says this:
1.5.1 RC1 -> 1.5.1 (update) -> 1.5.2 (update) -> 1.5.3 (update) -> 1.5.4 (update)

Each of the updates is linked, you can download those specific packages, one at a time and do the upgrade/update that way.

For your backup, if you don't have any mods/hacks installed, just go into your Admin area, lower left hand corner, empty out your activity logs and error logs, optimize the database and then dump the database.  Your board's backed up.

If you have any mods/hacks installed, do the same thing, except this time, after you get done doing that, go into your FTP area and back up all the physical files for the forums as well.
