Are you supplying a valid username and password to the smtp server?

I assume comcast is your ISP and not your webhost? If so its more than likely that they have their smtp servers set up to relay email based on your IP being in their pool rather than relaying with authentication.

The 504 error basically means

QuoteThis error code occurs when the client attempts to use anauthentication mechanism which the server does not implement.

Which to me says comcast dont provide authenticated smtp :(.

mazur, be careful doing that.  Comcast will come down on people that don't have business cable services (My best friend works for them in the most active region they have, the New England region).

Your outgoing SMTP should be smtp.comcast.net, put your username and password in there.

Reading is a lot different to sending.

Quoteand also i am hosting this board behind a comcast cable modem.

In that case, try leaving the username and password field blank and see if that helps.
