Chmod'ing on a Unix server

I've installed a new SE forum, but can't seem to figure out the right permissions, particulary for the Images, Help, and Attachment folders.  The board works, I just can't see any of the images, and can't attach anything, and the Help file doesn't work either.

I originally Chmod'ed the overall yabbse directory to 777, but it wouldn't show up, so it's set at 705 now and it works.

Everything in the yabbse directory, but not in the other folders, files like index.php, Settings.php, etc, are all set and working at 755.

Does anyone know what the permissions could be for the Help, Images, and Attachment folders, or possibly for what could be in them that needs to be Chmod'ed?

Having an SE board is nice, but without the images it's like a car without chrome.   :-\

Does 755 work?  Or maybe 775?

Nada.  775 actually put a lot of lines of code up at the top of the screen.

I tried 775 and 755 both on the Images folder, getting desperate, tried 644, 666, 664, & 600 on all the Image files not in a subdirectory, and it wouldn't work.

I've tried as many combinations as I can think of, and either none of them work, or I've overlooked one.

What lines precisely? Which text is displayed exactly?

Looks like its not recognizing the css part of the template ass css but printing it out. Maybe some mistake in the template.php or might be some crlf problem (that means check if you uploaded the files in the right mode ASCII / BINARY).

If those ideas dont help need an url and phpinfo.
