Please don't shoot me down.....login problems

Hi All,

I don't consider myself to be a G33k by any stretch of the imagination, however I decided after much looking around to use YaBBSE for my family bulletin board.

After a bit of hassle with the installation, but finally getting through it, I have my YaBBSE board up and running.

My problem is to do with logining in and out.

If I go to the above page, login, and then try to do anything else, it logs me out, back to guest.  If I click back to index.php again, it says I am Glen, and not guest!

I have searched this board and found numerous posts regarding this issue, the best of which looked like it had some code changes.  I went into the code, but the post's instructions were not clear on how to fix this issue, which exact bits to replace etc.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions, on how to fix this issue, as it is infuriating for a non techie to get to grips with.

Ive used boardmod before with YaBB SP1.1 - if this is causing so many headaches for people, maybe someone could be so kind as to create a fix the cookie/login mod?

Thanks, Glen

Glen, love the avatar.  :)

Would you mind terribly much providing a link to your site and also to a phpinfo.php file?  We'd like to see if it's just affecting you or if it's affecting us, as well.

Glen, okay, I registered a test account.  Got the same problem as you.

http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?board=140;action=display;threadid=21872

Try everything in that.

To create a phpinfo.php file, simply open up Notepad (or any other text editor program) and place the following line in it.

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Save as "phpinfo.php" (with the quotes) and then upload that to your site, come back here (IF the above link doesn't solve your problem) and post the URL to your phpinfo.php file.

We'll go from there.  :)

Think I might have it - this server has php 4.0.6 on it, and I just noticed yabbse needs version 4.1.0 or higher.

:(

Good news is that my mate owns the server, so I will have a word in his ear.......

:)

Thanks for the help douglas, I will come back to the board im sure when I ger the server running!  (He says, half laughing at himself...........)

See if he'll go up to 4.3.1, which has a lot of bug fixes and goodies in it.  Also, you should check to see if he'll bump your MySQL up to a much newer version.

Unfortunately there are known problems with PHP 4.1.2!

See [Unknown]'s Common Questions for 1.5.x:

QuoteI get "Failure In Submission Form.  Session Timeout" errors a lot... but only when posting.  What's wrong?

You're using a buggy version of PHP - 4.1.2.  This error is cause by a known bug in the version.... it can be solved by upgrading to any newer verion.  (you'll have to bug your host, but why are they running a buggy version?)
