Newsfader doesn't work

I just installed SE1.5.3 and noticed that the newsfader doesn't work. The path to the .js is correct, and I have set some news entries.

The problem is that when I load the page I see the news in plain text, rather than in a nice fader form. You can see what I mean here:

Did I install something wrongly?

You're looking at the news bar.  You have to turn on the fader.
