I would like to have some boards accessable only by the Admin, and in version 1.3 I could do this, I'm running 1.5.2 now and even though the catagory is set to allow only the Administrator member group, my global moderators can still see and posts in the boards under that catagory.. did something change?

Find and install Big P's Global Moderator security mod or whatever it's called.  It does exactly what you want.
