Trouble w/Moving my Forum...Pls Help!

Hi,

I am moving my forum to a new server. I used Greg Robson's backup/restore tool.

I ran a back up on the forum on the old server. I've installed YABBSE on the new server. I uploaded the back up to the new server and ran the restore.php script.

After running the script, I got this message in my browser:

QuoteIf no error messages arose then your database should be restored!
Thank you for using Greg Robson's YaBB SE backup script!

However, when I go to the forum and try to log in. I cannot.

I looked at the info in the database using PHPMy Admin and it appears that there are tables but no data. So, am I missing something? Does this tool only re-create the tables and I need to pull my data over separately? If so, what is the easiest way to do that?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am *not* an expert in My SQL by any means.

thanks in advance-
Pam

I probably know too little to answer - but have you tried uploading a copy of your database?

I assume you have a back-up downloaded from your old server itself?

No, I am going to attempt that now. I just printed out the instructions for the YaBB SE Database Tutorial: Saving and restoring the database. This may solve my problem but I'm not sure...wish me luck! I'll check back in and post my results.

Ah - thank goodness you're not listening to me, but instead following a tutorial. :)

Ok, so here is what I've figured out so far...

Apparently for some reason, when I used Greg Robson's backup/restore tool it created a duplicate of all tables in my original db and named them things like yabbse2_banned, yabbse2_boards etc.

The content of the original tables was deleted. So, for example, yabbse_boards is empty.

So I am stuck, I have NO idea of what to do now. I have dumped all the data from the db onto my hard drive.(even though the files have been renamed).

Is there anyone that can PLEASE help me at this point? I'm clueless (obviously).

Try if the db can be restored using David Smulders restore script which is posted in the save/restore tutorial here:
