Upgrading to 1.5.1 and getting memory error?

I just tried to upgrade my forums to 1.5.1RC1 from 1.4.1 and on page 2 of the upgrade.php I'm getting the following memory error message:

Code Select Expand

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /home/virtual/site1/fst/var/www/html/forums/upgrade.php on line 219

I even bumped up my memory to 32M in php.ini and it still gives the error.

So two questions. How do I get this to work? And if I can't, is there an easy way to "downgrade" back to my 1.4.1?

I'm thinking about reworking the installer....

To try being a bit more helpful for now.  Maybe try increasing that damn memory limit again.  The 1.4.x to 1.5.x upgrade is a large one and with a lot of posts can use quite a bit of memory.

Well I just bumped it up to 64M and now it timed out (at 160 seconds!  )

The last line before the timeout error was:
converting log_topics row 463201 to 463300

So I guess it's got a lot of info to go through on my board. I'll try setting a higher timeout, but at some point my server will start smoking.

Basically, you have a lot of members and a lot of posts.

It's not optimized for that currently.  I am going to rework it.

As long it isn't gonna burn your house down, datacenters have fire surpression systems that need to be tested now and then.

Yeah, I'm sure my host will see it your way David. I'l explain it to the insurance company.  

Woohooo! It worked!!! FYI, the settings needed were 64M and 300 seconds. Yikes! Now I'm off to change those settings back before my host catches me.

Yeah it's pretty active, although not nearly as big as some Yabb boards. The problem with an active forum is the bigger it is the more your anxiety level goes up when you upgrade. A lot of people would be disappointed if it got messed up.  I backup, but it still stresses me out to upgrade.
