Yes, go to your admin center, then Installed Mods and Settings, and disable karma.

If that's the "member status" - 1 way round it is in admin/preferences towards the bottom is "number of posts to become a ........ member" - you can set all these to unreachable amounts (9000) and then in admin/edit member groups - give each the same name so there's no difference and no starts, however much people post.
