Why does the installer give me so many errors about opening files?

The most likely reason for this is that your host is running in safe mode (most free hosts do).  These hosts need to use the safe-mode installer which is available at http://www.yabb.info/downloads.php

The deault installer upacks a yabb archive into file, which (because of the safe-mode restrictrions) can't be opened for editing in the later steps.

The safe-mode installer requires you to upload the already unpacked files before processing the rest of the install.

Some hosts that run in safe mode are:
http://www.spaceports.com
http://www.f2s.com
http://www.coolfreepages.com
http://www.jaguarpc.com (only some servers)

multimania.com should be added to the "safe mode" list
I guess that that is the only other drawback to it.

if you get erros you could possiably need to chmod the dirs and files

Hello all,
  I am also getting a lot of errors while running install.php.  The errors I get are "Permission Denied" type of errors.  My server is not in safe mode (according to phpinfo.php).  I am on a Windows 2k server so I can't CHMOD.  I enabled web sharing and/or normal sharing but still get the errors.  Any ideas ?
