High SQL access...

Hi, i was just wondering if yabb has a problem with connecting to the database tomany times. Our forums have around 800 members online we have about 10 constantly and at peak time its around 30 - 40 we also get around 500 - 700 posts a day.

Recently we were kicked off our host for tomany SQL hits at the one time and it was bringing up the CPU usage ... was just wondering how many SQL connections in peak time would you expect a board of that size to have? How many connections does this board have in peak time as the usersonline are comparable?

Really just wanting to know so we can find out what SQL requirments we will need from a host, and if its normal for a board that size. On the server we were on (was shared) had other forums of similar size (users online not posts, does posts bring up the connections and cpu usage?) but using differant forum software (phpBB and vBullitin) so is this somthing yabb relates or is it just to be expected to have a high SQL access.

If you were using 1.4, switch to the BoardIndex.php from 1.3 for now.

So is the 1.3 boardindex less harsh on SQL usage? What is lost if you go back to 1.3 boardindex?

Nothing. 1.4.1 also has a new BoardIndex which is ok to use.

Our main problem was tomany users connecting at once to the SQL server ... how many connections does one person open when loading the board index? (do the other versions of boardindex.php open less?) does viewing or posting threads use more connections?

Sorry for the anoying questions, SQL isant my thing so just trying to get a better understanding of whats happening. :)

Well the BoardIndex in 1.4 lowered the number of mySQL connections to the same level as that in other forums but it then caused a lot of overhead.

How many connections were you allowing?
