My PAID host just "fired" me due to Yabb SE!

For two weeks, I was the happiest man on Earth after installing YaBB SE.

Then, out of the blue this morning, my PAID host, wwwphpwebhosting.com , tells me to take my business elsewhere, here's your money refunded, go away. Sheesh, I am running a small hobby board with 200 users!

Sooooo, now I gotta find another host.

Anybody else had this happen to them? and can anyone else recommend a good paid host?

Rob

Woauh, I'd like to know more about that. How can this be: "unacceptable load on the CPU"?

I just heard of a friend who got fired because he used scripts his host didn't accept, although those were nothing really special, they just sometimes caused an error, he told me. And the host said due to not being able to run those scripst they'd just fire my friend, although he never complained about it. That was strange.

Having started to look for a new host mainly for more competitive MySQL pricing to run YaBB SE, I'd like to know how this turns out! And I second the call for recommendations of suitable hosts...

HI All,

This is Greg from phpwebhosting.com. I wanted to follow up on all this as we got a few questions about this.

First, I apologize to Rob if our treatment of him came across poorly. Our main goal was to

1.) Let him know that we refunded his money (we didn't want him to think we going to keep his money when his site was not up!)

and

2.) Let him know ASAP that things were not going to work out. His site had already been offline for about 10 hours. We never intend to keep people hanging around not knowing what the situation is.

Anyway, our sincere apologies to you Rob if we treated you poorly.

Regarding the problem - we are still trying to find out exactly what was going wrong. We have other clients running yabb (though perhaps not SE - I'm not sure) without any problem. Really the only bbs that causes problems for us is jelsoft's vBulletin (due we believe to the insane size that their attachment table often grows to).

When ever we would activate Rob's site the memory usage would steadily climb very quickly on the server. Almost as if it was leaking memory. I'm not sure if Rob had many mod's on his board or not. We DO NOT mean to imply that yabb is leaking memory (yabb rocks!).

The bottom line is that it was causing other client sites to become inaccessible so out of fairness to everyone we had to disable Rob's site. After about 10 hours of no resolution we let Rob know that we didn't think we could host him any longer. Rob was (understandably) anxious to have his site online so we wanted to let him know ASAP that he should get a new account. If it came across rudely we apologize.

I'll try to monitor this thread. Let me know if you have more questions.

Regards,

Greg

For the record, I did not wish to imply that I had been treated rudely by my host. My original post had been edited by one of the mods here, leaving out some of the specifics, leaving it a bit of a rant.

I was just suprised and disappointed that my hosting company had chosen to wash their hands of me this morning, I was more than willing to help them try and come to a resolution.

I told them at 7 a.m. I would like to download all my MySQL tables (their DBAs removed my entire database from my domain) so that I can populate my new site, they agreed at 11 a.m. but have yet to restore my database so that I can access it (it's 3:30 p.m. now)

In the meantime, my mailbox continues to fill up with questions from my users.... :-\

Yes, I had deleted this in order to keep it out of view but to my despair, it is not.

He did not say he was treated poorly either, he said there was a lot of CPU load and I did not want that on here as the average user will be misled by this.

Hopefully you guys can figure out what was really wrong and come to a solution...
