Can anyone explain this in more detail. I currenty have two forums running under YaBB Gold Rel 1. I installed YGr1 in two CGI-Local folders and set them up individually.
How do I set up YaBB SE to run two forums using on database????

All I did was change the prefix for each install. this made it easy to to have mutiple boards on the one data base

so you just change it during your install.

in actual fact if you want you can run 2 boards with the same prefix on 2 different subdomains on the one data base if you wish.

although that would be easier if yabbSE was available un archived so all you have to do then is upload the structure to another subdomain and edit the settings.php file to reflect the same database name, prefix, username, and password.

some people do this if you have 2 different subdomain websites but have similar interest.

Razgo is right on both accounts there. But I think what you want is his first post. Simply change the prefix of the board and it should be smooth sailing from there! :)

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I'm a bit dense. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by changing the prefix. Are you refering to the prefix of the MySQL database or do you mean to reinstall the entire YaBB SE into a new folder as I did with YaBB Gold Rel 1?

Can you run through some of the steps so I understand how to do this properly?

When I convert my board, the convert.php program asks for the name of my database and then asks the name of a "prefix to assign". I've left this blank as was suggested if I was unsure how to set it up.

If this is the prefix you are refering to, then do I have to add a prefix to the board I already converted OR can I just add the prefix to the new board I will be adding?

I think I'm about there, but need some clarification to be sure I understand your directions.

Thanks to all and a Happy New Year to you.

They're referring to the prefix in the installation, when it asks you what the database is named and what prefix (if any) the tables should be given. To create a separate board, simply run through the installation (installing it to a different directory, I should think), and make the prefix for the tables different from what you chose for any other YaBB SE boards you're running.

Hi,
Okay - I played around with the board and transfered over one of my YaBB 1 Gold boards and all of the settings. I now understand that I set up a MySQL database (that I called BBS) and set the prefix for my professional forum (1Gold board) to Professional.

Now, I want to convert my Public Forum from a second 1 Gold board.

Do I need to create a new instalation of SE in a separate folder AND use a new prefix to convert the Public board
OR
Can I convert the Public board using a new Prefix on the same database WITHOUT creating a separate installation?

Finally, If I need to create two separate forums (different folders and separate database prefixes) IS THERE ANY WAY TO COMBINE BOTH BOARDS INTO ONE USING THE CONVERT FEATURE?

The problem I am running into is that there is a restriction in the web-host fine print that limits the user to one forum. It also limits the user to an MySQL based BBS and will shut down any user using the standard YaBB flatfile format BBS (the host is Aletia Hosting).

Confused??? I think I am getting there!

Any ideas?

well there are several options.

but the easiest might be to do a convert to a new directory but keep the same data base.

so you would do exactly the same thing as you did before starting with the install. just change the destination folder for the second one and also use a different prefix so you can use the same data base.

but do wait for further clarification here as others may have more suggestions.
