YaBB SE Version: 1.5.2 to 1.5.4
Link to Forum: http://puntroadend.com/yabbse/index.php

Problem Description:
Hi guys,
I just tried to dump the database for the first time.
I selected save data and structure.
I downloaded the file to my desktop but I can't open it for some reason.
When I click open all I get is the file download box again.
Any suggestions of how to open it.  I've tried "open with" and still get the download box.
Thanks. :)

It saved an sql file right?  Try opening it with Notepad.

Please upgrade to 1.5.5.

Thank you.  It opened with wordpad although there aren't any messages saved.  There are things like banned and censored words and it ends somewhere in instant messages.
Can the messages be saved too?

Is there somewhere with simple instructions of how to upgrade for dummies?  I had help building my board so am not sure how to go about upgrading.

Thanks.

Hi Rosy

Given the size of your forum, I suspect that you might have to consider dumping your DB through SSH rather than the forum controls or phpMyAdmin. So I'm assuming that your dumped SQL file ends somewhere in instant messages ('i' comes before 'm', you see) because that's already several megabytes down the line and therefore as far as you're going to get by this method...

Thanks Peter.
I remember trying to save the posts through phpmyadmin once but kept getting a page cannot be displayed message.
Would that be because there are so many posts?

Start with http://www.yabbse.org/community/index.php?thread=27122 and please ask if there's anything you still don't get! :)

It's not the number of posts but the number of megabytes. From my experience, the built-in YaBB SE tool can handle a little more than the phpMyAdmin option, but they'll both choke after a few MB!

Help please.  I don't get anything. :'(

Sorry I really don't have much knowledge and my wonderful board was created thanks to a lot of kindness from other people.

I looked at the links but I really don't have a clue what to do.

Are there step by step directions anywhere that make it clear for an ignoramus to upgrade, or would anyone be able to point me in the right direction please?

If it's easier I can be contacted on MSN or ICQ.

Thanks.  :)

Hi guys,

Sorry to be a pest.   :-[

I am the victim of a fairly nasy hate campaign with a website set up for the purpose of bagging me and my site.  I'm also sent threatening e-mails and nasty sms's.

I am very worried about the safety of my board when there are such obsessed idiots around.

I realise my lack of computer knowledge must be a pain and is probably why noone replied to my previous post but I'm desparate for advise so thought I'd bring this to the top again in case any kind person is willing to point me in the right direction on here or contact me privately.

Cheers.  :)
