My members' passwords are disappearing!

Problem Description:
Very odd. More and more members are emailing me saying they can no longer log in with their passwords. I check their user profiles and sure enough, their passwords have disappeared! So I try to give them one, I hit "change profile" and then check to see the changes and the password is gone! Never stuck! Is there a particular file I should re-upload?

*Very* odd! In fact, so odd that I can't recall ever having seen this one before...

Is there a particular file I should re-upload?

Probably not, because the passwords are stored (encrypted) in the 'passwd' field of the 'members' table of the database. So some kind of DB corruption seems more likely, in which case you might be looking at DB repairs.

But I used to be able to see ********* for my members' passwords- at least the number of characters. Now both the password field and the verification field are blank. It's gotten so bad that now one of my mods can't get into the site! He keeps getting thrown back to the login page and when he enters his password he gets rejected and dumped back there again.

Thanks again Peter. I must have 20 diefferent members emailing me daily saying they can no longer access the site, one being my moderator. Very frustrating!

Can you check in the database itself to make sure their passwords are still there?

Make sure that your members know that the passwords ARE case sensitive.
