News: SMF is the next generation in forum software, almost completely re-written from the ground up, make sure you don't fall for cheap imitations that suffer from feature bloat!

That's actually a question I was thinking about too...it would be nice to still be able to access the mods after yabbse closes, but before simple machines is open to the public.

Not sure though how effective it would be to put them all in one big zip file, probably hard especially those who need more time to download...Some of them are already hosted on other people's sites though, or are they all?

http://www.supermod.org/ have a continuation (maybe a forked?) version of YaBB SE with many of the mods. More mods will continue to be added afterwords, and you can turn on/off whichever mods you want to. Its a simple process to update as well.

If you don't want to go that route, I'm sure the SMF people will offer mods as well, or at least most of the same features.

My advice would be to wait. Test SMF on a different site so you can see the admin features, but wait before making a decision until either the features you want are available or until you know they won't be.

Many mods have already been built into SMF as features or already ported.

With the SMF public beta release drawing closer, I would have to say not to worry about the mods. By the time the first stable (non-beta, non-release-candidate) version of SMF is released, most of the mods should be available for that board. I plan to port my mods to SMF as soon as I can after the public beta version is released (I'm a college student - can't afford Charter Membership)...
