Install problems

Problem Description:
I'm trying to install the safe install.  But i'm getting the error?  Can someone help me out on this?   I did a search and not coming up with anything?  If someone can help me out that would be great?  I've been reading that i should change 'chmod to 666, instead of 777'?  Where would i do this?  Please i need some help.

I've been reading that i should change 'chmod to 666, instead of 777'?  Where would i do this?

There's no chmod on Windows servers, but you should still be able to get the board working! Sorry I can't offer any more advice right now...

Hey sorry...i'm on a Lunix base server...not a window's one?  Sorry, does that help at all?  

Can you tell me what those error codes mean?  That would help me out.

This means that you can't write to your Settings.php file.

Basically another write permissions error!

You need FTP access to your server to chmod the files. If you don't know how, I'll try to dig up some instructions and a screenshot I did for my FTP client (Bulletproof FTP) a while back that should give some idea for whatever FTP client you're using yourself.

Here you go:

Depends on your FTP client, but probably (assuming Unix hosting) right click the directory, look for a menu item called 'change attributes', 'chmod' or something like that leading to something like the attached dialogue box (this one is from Bulletproof FTP). Depending on your FTP client again, add the numbers together (read = 4, write = 2, execute = 1) or check the relevant boxes to specify the permissions for each user group. Note that a setting like I've shown allows everyone to do everything, so it's consequently the least secure. 755 is also a common setting for directories.

PS 666 is *more* (not less) restrictive than 777, but it's possible your files are chmodded by default to 644 or something.

Well i think i got the other problem solved.  Now i have a different one?

MySQL password problem!

Sorry to keep quoting myself, but it saves time:

Looks like you've either entered the wrong 'Database Password' in 'Forum Preferences and Settings' or changed the MySQL password through external means (non YaBB SE) since you installed the forum!

If you can't get at your Admin Center, download Settings.php through FTP and check it there before uploading again. Probably worth double-checking that your MySQL username is also correct!
